DOMINIC HERBERT WAS USED TO SCORING THE FIRST goal in every game he played. Life changed suddenly in June 2015, when he was diagnosed with a brain tumor while going through the process of team tryouts. After 33 radiation treatments and a release from his doctors, Dominic fought back in record time. Determined to rejoin his team, he trained with younger teams and worked out on his own before becoming an integral part of the Chiefs FC Premier 00 team, which finished second in Classic 1 this fall. “Dominic played for me last season and did remarkably well,” Coach Neil McNab Sr. said. “That he was even on the field playing is a miracle. Even if he hadn’t played well, it was still a victory for him to be there.” Dominic’s hard work to recover and his spirit to succeed are an inspiration. “His family is wonderful. I can’t even imagine what they went through. But Dominic is always smiling, is very popular,” McNab Sr. added. In January, Dominic, a Cristiano Ronaldo fan, renewed his quest to start scoring goals again. “I’ve played soccer for 14 years, and my favorite thing about soccer is it takes me to a happy place. It takes me away from stress in life.” The striker loves scoring goals. He says his strengths are speed and footwork. “My mental strengths are forecasting/seeing where I need to play the ball and where I need to be on the field. Post-fall 2016 season was the first time I played with this group of teammates. I’m really satisfied how we did overall and how we advanced as a team.” Although being out a season was a challenge, he is working hard to do his part for the team. “Heading to State Cup in May, I want to make sure I play to the best of my ability and hopefully lead by scoring the team to a victory. I want to prepare by participating in all practices, attend extra practices, and do lots of repetition of game scenarios over and over till I feel I can’t do any better.”
