DON’T LAUGH AT ZENZO NDLOVU IF SOMETIMES he can’t tell his players apart. Coach Z has identical twins David and Daniel Huguley on his U10 Soccer4Life team. And they tend to do everything pretty much the same way too. He calls David ‘Man from Barcelona’ and Daniel ‘Man from Brazil’ because they are obsessed with Barcelona and Brazil. Coach Z plays David as an attacking midfielder left or right since he can use both feet. “Sometimes I play him up top.” What makes David so special? He tries new juggling and dribbling skills every time. He is only 8 years old but will not hesitate to take on a defender, nutmeg, and take shots at the goal. “He is very fast and also a dribbling wizard,” Coach Z enthuses. “I also call him and his twin brother ‘nsuku zonke’ after this Zimbabwean dribbling wizard who was the first African young player at 16 to sign up for an English League team — Coventry — back in the early ‘90s. ‘Nsuku zonke’ means every day — don’t have a bad game!” David has very few weaknesses, but his coach would like for him to become more of a team leader. “He is shy. I am working on getting him to do more than dribbling — carrying the team on his shoulders.” He adds, “the sky is the limit for him. I won’t be surprised if he and his brother sign up for Barcelona Academy and they’re senior squad at an early age.”
