04 WOLVES ELITES IN THE FALL OF 2016, THE DDYSC 2004 WOLVES ELITE BOYS, COACHED BY JEFF NEWBURY, EARNED AN SRPL berth, and in doing so became DDYSC’s first team to reach that level of play. Overall, the 04 Wolves Elite have displayed some of the positive aspects of the age group change. For our club, the “birth year” shift allowed us to bring together two separate Academy groups this past fall. The first was a very strong U12 Academy group, coached by Richard Richmond, and the second, a young, but talented U11 Academy group, coached by Tony Anglin. “As their current coach, I have been the fortunate beneficiary of some quality development and hard work by my predecessors,” Newbury says. Despite launching officially as a team in the fall of 2016, the majority of the group participated in our USL Super Y League over the summer. Over the course of the summer, the boys continued to grow as a group and even advanced to the National Semi-Finals of the Super Y League. By the time the fall season kicked off, most of the boys had already played a full summer season together. This really benefited the group on and off the field. As a whole, they are extremely close and committed. “I assumed the coaching duties just prior to the start of the spring SRPL season and have been impressed by their commitment, work rate, and willingness to compete,” Newbury said. “Most surprising has been the overall depth of this team, with a roster of 19, the amount of talent is fantastic and allows a coach great flexibility.”

At the start of the spring season, the team set a few short and and eliminate turnovers, the team is also demanding a consistent level long-term goals. As a possession-based team, the goal was to keep of intensity during training and matches. Each of these short-term and maintain a commitment to possessing the ball. “As a goal, we focal points, leads up to the ultimate long-term goal of developing and are attempting to make incremental improvements in this area each maintaining a high standard of play that does not fluctuate between training session and each match. In addition, we focus on each and levels of competition or opponents. every single mistake or unforced error,” the coach says. “The goal is Coach Newbury is excited about the season. “We are looking forward not to eliminate mistakes as a whole, which is unrealistic, but rather to watching these boys compete in their first State Cup over Memorial to focus on the impact of those turnovers and diminish them as much Day weekend. We are confident the boys will be ready to play and excited as possible.” While attempting to possess the ball with consistency to measure themselves against the top teams in their age groups.”
