AVERY BURLESON “SOMETIMES IN FOOTBALL YOU HAVE TO score goals,” is a quote from the legendary french striker Thierry Henry. When the 04 BUSA Girls are looking for those goals, the player to step up is attacking midfielder Avery Burleson. She has been with BUSA for four years and is a powerhouse in the team that makes her a very special player. When asked what about Avery stood out the most, her coach Sean Doran replied, “Avery is a very good technical player with a great first touch and close control. She gets into great positions that allow her to provide passes to our attackers and also get goals herself.” That kind of player within a squad has the ability to connect one vital pass that can alter the outcome of a game from a loss to a tie, or a tie to a win. But it’s not just Avery’s on the ball expertise that make her so important to the team. Coach Doran also praises her off the ball movement as well. “She works hard at closing down opposition players and works very hard on both offense and defense,” Coach Doran explains. It is working well for Avery Burleson and her team, who have been crowned champions in one tournament and were finalists in another during the fall season.
