HARLEY WAITS HARLEY WAITS, 14, WAS BORN TO PLAY SOCCER. Her coach, Pat Chanthavane, describes her as one of the most competitive and persistent players he has ever met. “She has a great work ethic and is a natural athlete, which shows in her love for both soccer and basketball. Her willingness to always give 110% to anything asked of her makes her very coachable as well as a great team player,” he said. Due to her hard work, Harley made the ODP State team in 2015 and 2016. She was one of her club team’s captains this fall because she is such a great role model and team leader. “She is a coach facilitator and occasionally will step in to help her teammates better understand what is being asked of them,” Chanthavane says. Her positive spirit empowered the teams, and new players to step up to the challenge of their training which helped build their confidence. Harley mainly plays center back but she is one of those players who can step right in and immediately make a difference in the game regardless of the position on the pitch. Coach Chanthavane says he wishes he could have 10 more players just like Harley. “She is such a wonderful and pleasant young lady to be around both on and off the field.”
