THE ENTIRE 00 GIRLS ELITE TEAM CAME THROUGH THE SSA ACADEMY TOGETHER AND, ACCORDING TO COACH JORDAN DAVIS, HAVE participated in team-building activities during and outside of practice to create greater value where each player knows the sum of the team is greater than its individual parts. Seasonal team goals emphasize player enjoyment and love for the game along with a competitive nature where players want to play at their best for self-satisfaction and team success. “More concrete goals include finishing in the top two of the league to earn promotion to the next level of competition, and to have success at showcase events,” Davis says. The 00 Elite playing style is high intensity, where players work in groups to retain the ball as quickly as possible and each player is key to the team maintaining possession. Davis emphasizes that the playing style requires constant movement to support each other in possession and press together defensively. He explains the team’s motivation comes from the environment where players are trusted to perform and take responsibility for their individual development — along with taking ownership in affecting the game and outcome. Through SPL league placement, the group has qualified for Regionals June in North Carolina and National League in the fall. They had several great showcase events, including February at the Players Showcase in Las Vegas. “The team is a joy to work with — training habits are excellent, and the intent is there for each person to be at their best for the group,” Davis said.
