U18 GIRLS LANIER SOCCER ASSOCIATION’S U18 GIRLS HAVE BEEN PLAYING together since U13s and they are going into U18s for the upcoming season. Coach Avram Allen says, “They are a technical group of players who play an attractive style of soccer. “They look to play a high-tempo style of soccer offensively, making them extremely attack-minded. If you like to watch an exciting soccer match, this is the team to watch because they never fail to excite. They are a resilient group of girls who refuse to back down from adversity and always look to finish the game. Defensively, they look to high press teams.” The team meets before the beginning of each season to go over team goals for the season. Winning motivates the team, so the goal setting doesn’t take very long. The girls are also a close group, having been together for some time. “The team chemistry is great. We are like a family,” Allen says. “They look to play for one another day in and day out, which is awesome. Of course, like any family, there are quarrels and disagreements along the way, but that is a part of team sports.
They speak their piece and move forward in order to focus on the task at hand.” Allen says there are team leaders, but in youth sports they tend not to be terribly vocal. “But we have a couple who do a fantastic job of leading by example.” This year, the team won the Athena B bracket (undefeated), was voted the winningest team at LSA, and advanced to State Cup. “These girls started out in U13 Athena E level. They have moved up every year since and finished last season as Athena B Champions. Now they are moving to U-18 Athena A this year,” Allen said proudly. “They finished five years with a record of 49 wins, 11 ties, and four losses. Nine of those ties and two of the losses came during the first three years. These girls play an exciting brand of futbol, adding a flare and creativity to the game that will have you on your feet. “As a coach, I am so blessed to have a great group of girls who work very well together, and always find a way to WIN!”
