2006 BOYS RED FOR MOST YOUTH SOCCER TEAMS, THIS YEAR’S AGE GROUP split was a hurdle that took some time to get over. Coach Joey Syfert says the split was pretty drastic for the 2006 Boys Red, but not a real issue. “We have a core group who played Super Y together last summer which was really the first time they all played together. That team scored the most goals in the country across all age groups. So, technically, we are pretty new to each other but if you ever saw the boys on or off the field you’d think they have been friends forever. It came together really well. “Our club is very close across all age groups. The boys refer to the 05s as their older brothers, and the 07s as their little brothers.” He’s proud of how well the team gets along. “They motivate each other. It’s unlike any team I’ve worked with before,” he enthuses. “They really feed off of each other and genuinely want their teammates to succeed. They’ll also experience a different culture while playing the game they Also cleats. These kids are all about new cleats! They’ve got a little love. “The goal is to come back a better player and a better person,” ceremony they do any time someone shows up with new cleats.” Syfert says. “Winning will be a bonus.” And they certainly want to put those new cleats to work. The 06 Syfert can’t say enough good things about his players and their Red is very much a passing team that looks to score goals more than families. “This is a family, not a team. People focus a lot on whether or not defending a lead. “We would rather win a game 6-5 than 1-0. All the players get along with each other but one thing that gets overlooked attack, all the time,” Syfert says. a lot, especially in the academy ages, is the group of parents behind The coach understands that, obviously, the boys want to win them. The parents get along with each other just as well as the boys. It’s every game they play, but says any pressure they feel is put on them really remarkable.” On game day, all the parents sit together, they all wear by themselves. “Our goal here is to provide an environment where Smyrna red. “It’s an amazing feeling of support at this club. We’ve got a the player is comfortable to express himself on and off the ball. We very culturally diverse group. Parents and players from all over the world
