MADISON (MADDIE) SMITH, THE UNQUESTIONED LEADER ON the Fusion 98 Premier Girls team, is a competitor in every sense of the word. She leads by example but is also a vocal leader, unafraid to push her teammates when the occasion calls for it. “She wants you to get after it as much as she does, and she is not afraid to let you know when you’re not getting it done,” says Jeremiah Massa, director of coaching for Fusion. Maddie plays center back on her club team but plays forward on her high school squad at Albertville High School, proving her versatility with the ball at her feet. Several universities are recruiting her to continue playing soccer at the next level. “She’s a very physical player and she runs the ball a lot,” says Massa. “She’s going to play in college somewhere. I can’t say enough good things about Maddie.”
