CLUB SPOTLIGHT FOUNDED IN 2010, FUSION FUTBOL CLUB WAS CREATED AS A WAY TO PROVIDE a competitive soccer experience for kids in northeast Alabama. Based in Gadsden, Fusion has expanded its reach over the years, fielding teams in Marshall, Etowah, and Calhoun Counties while also pulling in kids from further out, such as Fort Payne and Oneonta. The club has been quite successful on the Division II level and is now working toward being just as competitive on the Division I, a lofty goal for an area of the state lacking a solid history or understanding of soccer. To help with the task, Fusion’s Director of Coaching, Jeremiah Massa, has brought in a handful of quality and dedicated coaches who not only develop players but serve as ambassadors for the club, helping to promote the sport from a grass roots level. “It’s about changing cultures here,” Massa says. “We have a really good core group of coaches, and they have a lot of work put on them and they do a lot of the development. Massa says the goal of Fusion is to be a full-fledged competitive soccer club fighting for state championships and beyond at the Division I level, expanding on their success in Division II. In 2017 Fusion plans on fielding four boys teams and two girls in Division I. Massa says the club will base those teams out of Choccolocco
